It appears that it’s not an isolated issue … and seems to happen on Asus’s AM5 motherboards. Come on Asus! sort out your BIOS!
Taken from Videocardz …There is a very popular thread on Reddit featuring a picture of one of the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. But this is not a story from a happy user because the CPU in question died. The processor has suddenly burned out and there is now a small bulge on the CPU. Unfortunately for this user, the CPU is no longer operational and so is the expensive motherboard.
It looks like this case is not isolated and most cases of this kind have one thing in common, and that’s the ASUS motherboard. It is said that the company has recently taken down the latest BIOS, possibly to avoid any potential problems for users. However, it is said that the ASUS voltage regulator mechanism might be to blame. Russian YouTuber and technician Vik-Off had a similar problem with Ryzen 9 7950X3D on an ASUS ROG motherboard recently:
Interestingly, all CPUs that were affected by sudden burnout had the defect in the same spot. It appears to be the exact spot where the 3D V-Cache chiplet is located, so the rumors about extensive voltage going through this chiplet might have some ground for further investigation.
