AMD has the Highest CPU Market Share Since 2006

No surprise here. All my desktops are using AMD processors … and now I’m using the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 Gaming Laptop, which also uses an AMD processorcpu, . It’s AMD all the way baby!

Taken from Guru3D … According to the most recent reports, AMD gained 16.9 percent market share with its x86 processors in the second quarter of 2021, breaking a record that had eluded the Reds since 2006 and setting a new benchmark for the company.

For the second quarter of 2020, Mercury Research released its report in which it found that AMD had reached 16.9 percent global market share for x86 CPUs, an increase of 0.8 percentage points sequentially and an increase of 7.3 percentage points year on year. This is the company’s highest market share for x86 CPUs in 15 years.

AMD’s share of the x86 processor market increased to 15.8 percent, a 0.7 percentage point increase from the previous quarter and a 4.1 percentage point increase from the previous year. AMD’s share of the x86 server market increased to 11.6 percent, an increase of 0.8 percentage points sequentially and 4.7 percentage points year-on-year, according to the company.

AMD could have a much larger market share if they were not so focused on the low-end CPU market. In fact, AMD has reduced shipments of low-end or low-cost CPUs throughout the year in order to focus on improving profitability, with high-margin CPUs taking center stage.
