NIO Automaker to use AMD 3rd Gen EPYC for their Car Development

Car development is more complex than you think … and thanks to AMD, car maker NIO will be using 3rd Gen EPYC powered systems for their car development.

Taken from Videocardz … AMD China today announced they have entered a partnership with NIO automaker.

AMD 3rd Gen EPYC CPUs will be used to speed up the deep learning training process and as a result shorten the product development cycle. This has been stated in a video posted by AMD today.

It should be noted that EPYC CPUs will obviously not be used by product vehicles, but only for the development purposes. NIO automobiles currently make use of Qualcomm chips for its onboard infotainment/cockpit, while smart chips are being supplied by Intel’s Mobileye and NVIDIA.

AMD, who are a sponsor of Mercedes-AMG F1 team, already supply their 2nd EPYC CPUs to increase aerodynamic CFD model simulations for their racing cars.

For NIO, AMD will provide hardware that will be used for FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) used for crash simulations and to form  aerodynamic models.

NIO’s HPC servers equipped with 3rd Gen EPYC CPUs received 50% boost compared to last year for single-day simulations tasks.
